WHEN STYLE MEETS SPORT The Rise of Designer Courts

There was a time when a sports court was simply a patch of concrete- functional, grey, and purely utilitarian.
It served its purpose but didn’t inspire much.
Fast forward to today, and the scene has changed completely. Across India, sports spaces are being reimagined, not only as playing areas, but as designed environments that reflect creativity, identity, and pride.
At OS, we’ve had a front-row seat to this transformation, where performance still leads the way, but design now shares the spotlight.
The New Perspective: From Utility to Identity
For years, building a court meant focusing on technical essential parameters:
surface friction
bounce
drainage
durability
But now, there’s an added dimension:
how a space feels and fits within its surroundings.
A well-designed court today complements the architecture around it, balances the colours of its environment, and even reflects the personality of the people who play on it. The way people experience play is changing meaning.
The Panchkula Project: A Play of Colour and Community

In Panchkula, we designed a set of pickleball courts nestled right in the heart of a residential society, a space surrounded by everyday life, laughter, and the rhythm of community.
Instead of sticking to traditional tones, we experimented with a bold red-green-blue palette that instantly energised the surroundings.
The contrast didn’t just make the courts stand out visually, it gave the space a new pulse, transforming an ordinary community corner into a lively hub for recreation and togetherness.
A Pop of Colour: Pickleball Court Near India Gate

Another recent project, a school near India Gate, took us in the opposite direction. The campus had a sophisticated, monochromatic palette- greys, whites, and sleek architecture.
The management wanted multiple pickleball courts that could bring in vibrance without overpowering the calm elegance of the space.
Our solution was a grey-and-blue design, where the grey flooring grounded the court while the vibrant shades of blue playing zone added a refined burst of colour.
Balanced. Modern. Distinctive.
The result instantly lifted the entire zone, turning the court into not just a playing space, but a visual highlight of the campus.
Design as a Performance Partner
In both projects, one thing stood out: design enhanced performance.
When players step onto a visually engaging, well-balanced surface, it changes their energy, their motivation, even their sense of belonging.
And for schools, hotels, and private arenas, a designer court is more than just an aesthetic investment, it’s a statement of thoughtfulness.
It says, “We care about every detail from how you play, to how you feel while playing.”
Author’s Note
I’ve always believed that design is what turns a good space into a memorable one.
When I see a child sprinting across a colourful court or a player practising on a surface that feels uniquely crafted, it reinforces why we do what we do: to make sport not just accessible, but beautifully experiential.
And that’s our quiet mission- to build arenas that play well, age gracefully, and always tell a story.
